Nga Pirihimana given their marching orders following 2018 Dawn Raid:

The mainstream media and the NZ Police scripted the politically correct version of Waitangi 2018, complete with reports of a hangi that seems to have only existed in their imaginations, telling everyone that it was a huge success and everyone had a lovely time at Jacinda's sausage sizzle, and there were no problems at all.  This is nothing new.

The media recently reported on "financial irregularities" involving the Waitangi National Trust, which is a completely separate organisation from Te Tii Marae, it administers the treaty grounds and surrounding area and has nothing to do with Te Tii Marae.  That didn't stop mischievous media from using stock photographs of the marae in their reports - thereby insinuating that the alleged financial irregularities somehow involve the marae.

The truth is very different.

Nga Pirihimana (the Armed Constabulary of 'New Zealand') were given their marching orders when they tried for the second time to evict lawful occupiers who were once again peacefully feeding their kids and putting them down for a sleep on our own whenua (land) which we have peacefully occupied since time immemorial.  Te Karaka Tapu Historic Reserve is wahi tapu, sacred.  Police have no jurisdiction on that land.  Whanau have always camped on the land, and there is a register of previous attendance to prove it.

Hostilities began in the morning, when the Police were seen to put on their hats, gather themselves together, and approach whanau who were camping on a piece of whenua known as "The Island" and Te Karaka Tapu Historic Reserve.  Police then began pulling out tent pegs and ordering people off the land.

Half a dozen Police then stood on the piece of land all day, eating sausages delivered by their colleagues.  Standing on it in their big black boots, making sure that no cheeky natives put their feet on it, tax payers paid for this.  There were clearly no other plans for the land because it remained empty apart from the Police standing on it all day.  There was no need for Police to evict people and no need for them to stand there on the land all day - trying to provoke a reaction.

The general public were led up the garden path by the compliant media, who totally ignored the confrontation between tangata whenua and Police, straight past Te Tii Marae, the only marae at Waitangi, straight up to Jacinda's Sausage Sizzle, which was held up at the haka boogie showgrounds known to locals as 'up the top', James Busby's residence.

While the sausages were being guzzled up top, those who had come to honour the spirit of Te Tiriti and te Wakaputanga remained at Te Tii, where the mana of the treaty resides, and will always reside, and dined on all sorts of delicacies including oysters, koura (crayfish), fresh fish and other kaimoana, beautiful breads, a kaleidoscope of fruit including sweet juicy watermelons, and a feast fit for kings, enjoying the legendary hospitality of the hau kainga down at Te Tii.  Diners were entertained with beautiful waiata and kapa haka, and served by the kai mahi of Te Tii who do such a wonderful job each and every year.  In comparison, the sausages handed out by the politicians were utterly pathetic, despite the best efforts of the media to portray the sausage sizzle as a huge success while they totally ignored Te Tii, and totally ignored both raids by Police.

There was heated dispute with Police regarding the legality of the authority relied upon by Police to justify their actions.  It was pointed out to Police that the persons occupying the whenua were lawful occupiers and that the claims of the Far North District Council regarding the ownership of the land were false.

Housing crisis - NZ Police pulling out tent pegs and evicting children in the middle of their breakfast - shameful!

Pulling out the tent pegs as whanau were trying to feed their kids.  Police have no jurisdiction on Te Karaka Tapu Reserve, and no right to touch the tents.

Note the handful of tent pegs.

There was huge opposition to the actions of Police at Te Tii during Jacinda's distraction up top.
Apparently Hinewhare Harawira authorised Police to evict whanaunga.  Ms Harawira was appointed as a trustee by the Court, despite strong opposition from other trustees and beneficiaries, part of the divide and conquer strategy favoured by the Crown.

The following photographs and videos document the Dusk Raid, which focused on Te Karaka Tapu Historic Reserve, and the reaction of the whanau who stood up for themselves and forced the Police to back down and leave, after being advised of their rights, and encouraged to stand up for their rights:

Whanau filmed the Police as they began attempting to intimidate and evict people from Te Karaka Tapu Reserve, and mounted a strong resistance.

Reinforcements are summoned and kaumatua are informed of developments

Police made a rapid retreat when kaumatua arrive.
Kingi Taurua and Dun Mihaka were first to show them their place and chase them off.

Kaumatua make it clear to Police that we will not be leaving.

More kaumatua arrive as Police slink off back to the sailing club where they're based

Following strong resistance from whanau, and the arrival of over a dozen formidable kaumatua including Dun Mihaka and Kingi Taurua, Nga Pirihimana backed down, left, and didn't come back.  The license to occupy was not put into effect.

Enquiries continue into the actions of Police, and the Far North District Council.  The two pieces of land Police evicted whanau from belong to the Te Tii A Block and Police and Far North District Council have no jurisdiction over either piece of land.  Any rights they claim to have were unlawfully obtained.

- Update - formal complaints have been made following Police response to OIA request.
